We employ two main approaches for transplanting hair to restore healthy growth. Although FUT leaves a small, light scar at the donor site, this method may be preferable for some patients. We will make all your travel arrangements including a non-stop flight to Oslo from the United States, and accommodations at our on-site luxury suites the night before your procedure. Below, we detail the most common questions we receive
We use the most modern and advanced methods available in hair transplantation today, namely FUE and FUT. These methods involve taking hair from a donor area (usually at the back of the head) and then transplanting it to the site with little hair. The treatment takes place under local anesthetic and is not painful.
FUE hair transplant stands for Follicular Unit Extraction. This method involves using a specialized tool that extracts hair follicles in a random pattern and then transplants them to fill a receding hairline, balding, or thinning area. This method takes longer but is much less invasive and leaves no visible scarring.
Follicular Unit Transplantation, or FUT, is the method that involves harvesting a strip of skin from the back of the scalp. Genetically, follicles in this region do not contribute to balding. This skin has all the donor hair follicles that will be transplanted to the front or top of the scalp. This method is faster than FUE but leaves a horizontal scar at the back of the head, which is not a problem for those who do not wear a very short hairstyle.
A hair transplant surgery lasts 2.5 to 7 hours, depending on the number of implanted grafts. Extracted grafts surgically implanted determine the length of the operation. Each graft contains 1 to 5 strands of hair.
We perform FUE and FUT procedures with a local anesthetic so the treatment does not hurt. After the process, you may experience some slight discomfort. We will prescribe you an anti-inflammatory for any soreness.
Scarring is minimal with the FUE method and typically wholly invisible. When using FUT, there will be a scar across the back of the scalp that is only noticeable when wearing a very short hairstyle at the back.
A direct flight to Oslo from JFK takes about 7.5 hours. All travel costs, direct and indirect flights, are covered in the total cost of your surgery.
There will be a shedding period within the first couple of weeks, with new hair growth typically starting within two to four months after the procedure. Noticeable hair growth should be visible in about 10 to 14 weeks.
The results are long-lasting, as the transplanted follicles are from scalp areas where balding does not typically occur. These hardier follicles will continue to produce hair for many years to come.
Your return to work depends on the type of job you have. You need a few days off if you have a sedentary office job. You may need to allow a little more time if you have a very active job.
There are many reasons you lose your hair, but in the vast majority of cases, it is due to androgenic alopecia. The causes of alopecia are age and genetics; however, it is more common among men.
Many people find it embarrassing to lose their hair and walk around with weakened self-esteem for several years. Women can also experience hair loss due to androgenic alopecia, which is most often after age 60.
